Jesus said. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always,
to the very end of the age."
Matthew 28: 19-20

Here at South Gorham Baptist Church,
we take these words of Jesus very
seriously - "Go and make disciples..
" Our church commits 16% of our regular giving to
missions and outreach work.  Mission - sharing
the good news of Jesus and serving those
in need, is as important in our own backyard
as it is around the world.
We support, and we are involved in
 many outreach ministries both locally and
globally.  Below are just a few of the ways
we reach out in Jesus name.

Local / Home Missions which our church supports:
Gorham Ecumenical Commission:


The Root Cellar:  "Meeting the physical and spiritual needs of Portland's inner - city youth and their families"

Joyful Harvest Neighborhood Ministries:


Seafarer's Friend:  An outreach program to ships that come into Portland harbor from around the world!

John Haslam / Intervarsity Christian Fellowship:  John serves in evangelism and leader training on several college campuses in the greater Portland area.


National Ministries: The "Home Missions" arm of our American Baptist Family


Habitat for Humanity:  working with the poor to build affordable housing here and  around the world.


Young Life of Greater Portland:  Young Life is a non-denominational, Christian organization committed to impacting kid's lives and preparing them for the future.  For more than six decades, Young Life has been introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith, while providing strong, positive influences in their lives.
 
  International Ministries our church supports:


American Baptist Foreign Mission Society:  The international arm of our American Baptist Family.


Short Term Mission Trips:  We have a short term mission experience in the Dominican Republic every April.
An amazing opportunity to learn from other Christians and to share our faith, our hearts and our hands.

Central Africa Vision 2000:  A ministry of reconciliation and sustainable development among the Hutus and Tutsis of central Africa region.


Compassion International:  Sponsor a poor child and provide opportunity for physical and educational support along with hope in Jesus Christ!
